Position Description Summary

NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track opening for an accountancy faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor beginning fall 2018. We are primarily interested in candidates who have a teaching interest in accounting information systems, managerial accounting, or governmental accounting but we will consider all viable candidates. NIU offers the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Master of Accounting (MAC), Master of Accounting Science (MAS), and Master of Science in Taxation (MST) degrees. The Department of Accountancy at Northern Illinois University provides a collegial environment in which faculty support each other and their students. We are interested in identifying faculty who want to make NIU their long-term home. We encourage faculty to find their teaching and research passion and pursue those interest. We foster a diverse environment including sponsoring five student organizations in the department, three of which focus on minority students. The College also sponsors a Women in Business Professionals organization.

Position will teach accountancy classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. The faculty member is also responsible for conducting research, providing service to the Department, and being engaged with the profession.

Required Qualificaitons

• Candidates must have, or expect to have, a doctorate in accounting from an AACSB accredited institution or other related field at the time of appointment.
• Candidates must be qualified to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Candidates also must have the ability to produce quality research.
• Candidates must possess a background in teaching and interacting with a diverse student population.
• Collegiality and desire to work with faculty in the department.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience, business experience, and professional certification are desirable.
• We are particularly interested in faculty who want to combine their research and teaching with a close working relationship with the professional business community.
